In every fighting ring around the world, weight divisions exist to keep a 130kg, muscle-bound fighter from killing a scrawny 60kg scrapper from the streets. It makes the entertainment to watch a match enjoyable, as well as keeps fighters in their weight class to train up and become the top contender in that division.
This Friday, we’re introducing this time-tested element into Tezotopia Battles. There will be three weight classes: Tier 1 (Lightweight), Tier 2 (Middleweight), and Tier 3 (Heavyweight) in the coming weeks; but we’ll be launching with a hybrid of Tier 1 and Tier 2 this weekend first, and then roll out the other heavyweight classes in the coming days, as well as distinguish a line between Tier 1 and 2.
How will it work? Depending on a new stat, Power Rating (PR), players will select units to max out their weight division cap, in the hybrid division it’s set to 300 Minimum PR per army at first, once that’s filled out, you can then work your way to fill out the 1000 Max PR.
This allows you to select your light infantry, low PR troops first, giving you an opportunity to bring in more than 3 units into battle and fill out the requirements for the weight division.
Once we introduce the heavyweight division, heavy infantry units such as Magna Orus and Big Mack can enter the battle arena in multiple numbers.
Rewards will reflect weight classes. If you paid for heavy infantry units, you deserve a better opportunity to higher class loot items. Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight will have different odds for the best lootbox items, with the higher Tier having the best percentage to receive better loot.
Power Ratings
Below is a list of the current Power Ratings and the target PR we’re aiming for on some units that need improving.
Move Boost Cooldowns will be introduced giving an adjusted PR to units. You’ll not be able to Move Boost on every turn, and wait for a cool down to use it again. These are represented in the middle column.
As things get tested on a larger scale, some of these ratings may change. We have noticed the Ottez Warrior in large numbers is extremely deadly, so we’ve already increased the PR for Ottez Warior from 241 to 300.
Matchmaking
The introduction of weight divisions is being put in place to encourage new players that didn’t have the opportunity to snag heavyweight units like Big Mack and Orus to also have an enjoyable experience playing Teztopia Battles. For the past two weeks, we’ve allowed a free-for-all that big investors have taken advantage of earning some excellent spoils of war—and they can’t be blamed for that.
Rewarding our early investors is something we pride ourselves on, but to do that at the expense of the experience of newly onboarded players does not have long-term sustainability. Rest assured, we are working on ways to continually support our long-term investors and will reveal those solutions in the short term.
For now, we encourage everybody to pick their weight class, and use theirs skills on the battlefield to become the top contender of Tezotopia Battles!
More Improvements Incoming…
We’ve been listening to all the concerns around Waves, Unit Balancing, and Glyphstones; everything is being worked on to maximize the best results on each of these matters.
We’re shaping the unit balancing mechanics to deliver on the promises of some units and waves that had been made in the past and these new features will be rolled out in the coming weeks. You did not ape into Wave 1 in vain.
As well as every unit will have special abilities, for example Catoshi will ninja-like advantages, Big Mack will absorb damage from friendlies, and Betron will be able to control enemy units by stunning them—those are just a few examples of big changes incoming to make units a little more special.
We wanted this post to be devoted to the new weight division structure, but we also wanted to make sure we let you know that we working on other improvements as well. Battles will only get better from here on out, and we encourage you to always leave us feedback on our discord: https://discord.gg/tezotopia
